Music – 4
I think the piano and his singing are both beautiful in this, and perfectly aligned with the theme of the song. If you didn’t understand any of the words I think you’d still be able to tell that it’s a love song. It’s so tender, gentle, caring, and sincere. I find it truly romantic.
Poetry – 4
I mean the lyrics are poetry. It’s exemplary of the scoring category.
Change – 2
It doesn’t reach the level of change that would give this a four, or even a three, but he does build and fall throughout the song. I maybe wish he had pushed it a little bit more. As in the moment “she touches me, and I get turned around”, I just wish it had been just a little more.
Side note: if I was doing the live version, this would get a 3. He pushes it more in the live version.
Insight – 4
I think yes, it’s a love song, but it’s a pinnacle of the genre. It is truly and unconditionally a love song. It is exemplary of romantic love. “She’s got a way” even in concept is so beautiful.
Good – 4
I think this song is perfect. One of his very best, and one of my favorites. I’d definitely show this to someone to introduce them to Billy Joel.
